Autism Speaks

Autism Speaks

Autism Speaks was founded in February 2005 by Bob and Suzanne Wright, grandparents of a child with autism. Their longtime friend Bernie Marcus donated $25 million to help financially launch the organization. Since then, Autism Speaks has grown into the world's leading autism science and advocacy organization, dedicated to funding research into the causes, prevention, treatments and a cure for autism; increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders; and advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and their families. Spirit League

Spirit League

Spirit League allows children with special needs to play team sports in a positive, self-esteem building environment. Spirit League is designed for children who are physically active (ambulatory), and have the emotional ability to participate - but have difficulty keeping up with their peers. The organization emphasizes the learning of basic sports skills and physical fitness for higher functioning but developmentally challenged boys and girls, ages 6-20, in southern Orange County, California. The goal is to safely help these children develop the skills, knowledge, discipline and confidence necessary to play team sports on their school playgrounds and in their neighborhoods.
